ARTIST STATEMENT
I believe it is the inherent nature of an artist’s work to not only document but also study civilization as it exists today and as it is continuously evolving. As an artist, I explore the space between real world events and the internal, subconscious experience. It is the gradient between the seen and the unseen that I attempt to represent through multidimensional work using an experimental arrangement of mediums.
Through my experience obtaining a bachelor’s degree in architecture, I have discovered a deep interest in patterns of human behavior. I look to the past, present, and future to study relationships between people and our surroundings, including the built environment, the natural environment, and human relationships as they exist between each other. I organize this information into works of art.
Watching Phoenix grow as a city through the lens of a first generation American born to two Colombian immigrants has seeded a personal interest in the disparity that exists around the world. I hope, throughout my career as an artist, to bring awareness to social issues that are prominent elements of American society such as homelessness, addiction, and inequality.
